0207-New Def Jam distributed label helmed by twin siblings Alec and Alex Boateng

Alec and Alex Boateng are Ghanaian by lineage but London born. They have made their way up the musical food chain over the last decade.

“I’m proud our collective journey now includes partnering a legendary label with a style that only London and the UK can provide.” Alex Boateng, 0207 Def Jam

Alec and Alex Boateng come to 0207 Def Jam after working in different roles in the music industry. Alec started out working in A&R at Ministry of Sound before he launched a London-based music company with the deceased industry lawyer Richard Antwi. They worked with acts such as Popcaan and Gyptian.

Alex started his music career under his own marketing and promotions shingle with his then BBC 1Xtra colleague G Money, before moving on to consulting roles with Atlantic Records, Polydor and AATW.

Alex Boateng’s former Island colleague, Amy Tettey, will be joining 0207 Def Jam as Managing Director. Tettey has spent 11 years at Island, the past four as finance director, working across an artist roster that in this time has included Amy Winehouse, Drake, Dizzee Rascal and Giggs.

Meanwhile, Jacqueline Eyewe and Char Grant have joined 0207 Def Jam as Marketing Director and A&R Director, respectively

Alec says, "I’ve since discovered that the industry is lined with the corpses of people who were in my situation, who couldn’t hold on to [their label jobs] through drum & bass, or garage, or grime – whatever the hot sound was at the time. Music, art and artists really, really matter. I’m super excited to play a leadership role in this brilliant new space we’re creating for amazing music and talent to live and evolve. A space which will support both our teams and our artists to be the best version of themselves.”
